Global CIO appointments

Our monthly round-up of the latest major CIO appointments from around the world:

Australia

Sydney Water has named as its new CIO Chris Ford, the former IT director for Nottingham City Council in the UK.

Qantas’s group executive of corporate services and technology, David Hall, has been promoted to CEO of the Australian airline’s JetStar subsidiary.

NSW Health has named Greg Wells, director of strategy and architecture, as its interim CIO, with acting CIO Craig Smith heading to Deloitte’s local e-health practice.

Bermuda

Bermuda Hospitals Board has appointed Dion Tucker as CIO. Previously, he was VP of IS at Renaissance Reinsurance Holdings.

China

Alison Dack, MD of technology services for FedEx, has been promoted to VP of IT and CIO of the FedEx Asia Pacific region, based out of Hong Kong. Her predecessor, Linda Brigance, takes on the role of VP of IT for global clearance at FedEx Trade Networks.

Philippines

Ivan Uy, who was formerly the CIO of the country’s Supreme Court, has been named the country’s new ICT chief and chair for the Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT).

Switzerland

Zurich Financial Services Group has announced the appointment of Markus Nordlin to the post of chief information technology officer.

UK

ITV has appointed Paul Dale as its new board-level CTO. He comes from Astro, one of Asia’s leading pay-TV operators, and Sky before that. He will lead the newly formed Technology and Platforms directorate at the broadcaster.

The Press Association has appointed Bauer Consumer Media’s operations and technology director Andrew Dowsett as its first CTO.

Centrica has promoted David Bickerton from CIO at its British Gas subsidiary into the role of global CIO for the whole of the group.

A former Centrica CIO, Gareth Lewis, has taken over as CIO for the UK Financial Services Authority.

Bernard Bazley, the ex-head of IT at HSBC, has become CIO at AJ Gallagher International, the insurance brokerage and risk management services giant.

The Open University has appointed its first CIO, David Matthewman, who joins after a stint as CTO at Directgov, the UK government’s web unit, where he was involved in the foundation project for the government’s G-Cloud strategy.

Robin Paine has left his post as CTO at the London Stock Exchange for Oxford Sustainable, a company that develops renewable energy systems.

US

JC Penney Co has appointed CIO Thomas Nealon as group EVP to take over the leadership role for JCP.com, the retailer’s ecommerce site.

Martha Poulter has been named VP and CIO for GE Capital.

Integra Telecom has promoted Rob Smith to the position of CIO.

Michael Duffy, the Treasury Department’s CIO, has returned to the Justice Department and the Office of the Chief Information Officer.

Harris Corporation, the ITC services company, has named Ted Hengst corporate VP and CIO.

Bank of America has announced Bridget O'Connor as CTO for its Consumer and Small Business Banking and its Home Loans and Insurance (business lines).

Charles Campbell, the CIO of the Military Health System, has been transferred to the Defense Department’s Office of the CIO (also known as the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Networks and Information Integration), with Mary Ann Rockey, MHS deputy CIO for acquisition, taking over his duties.

Sanjeev Prasad has been named CIO at Genpact, the global BPO services company.

Wyndham Hotel Group, best known for its Ramada chain, has also appointed Dan Kornick as SVP and CIO.

Chip-maker AMD has announced the appointment of Donald Newell аѕ its VP and CTO.

ING Insurance US has promoted Gary Baxter to CIO.

Dunkin’ Brands, the company behind Dunkin’ Donuts and Baskin-Robbins, has made Ken Chaisson VP of IT, retail technology deployment and support services.

Defence industry supplier TASC has named Mark Leary from Northrop Grumman as its chief information security officer.

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
has announced Richard Robinson as its new CIO.

Fox Chase Bancorp Inc has named Randy McGarry as SVP and CIO.

The US International Trade Commission has said that Andrew Martin has been designated as the agency’s CIO. He joins from the Federal Communications Commission.

Following the merger of United Airlines and Continental Airlines, Keith Halbert has become CIO of the combined group. He was previously CIO at United.

Insurance company Travelers has appointed Madelyn Lankton as its new CIO, following the departure of Bill Bloom to outsourcing company EXL.
