Our regular round-up of the latest major CIO appointments from around the world:

AUSTRALIA

After five years as CIO for HSBC Bank Australia & New Zealand, Brenton Hush has taken on a wider role as chief technology and services officer for the bank’s operations in the region.

Bill Rue, CIO of Hassell, is moving on from the international design and planning firm after five years — with the board’s blessing.

The Department of Human Services is on the hunt for a new CIO following the announcement that IT head John Wadeson will retire.

Australia’s largest customer-owned financial institution, Credit Union Australia, is seeking a new CIO following the announcement that Barry Los will take early retirement.

BELGIUM

Commodity futures trading firm FG Solutions International has named its new CIO as Jameson Flincher.

FRANCE

Christian Lévi, CIO at energy company EDF, has left the group to take on a management consultancy role.

Paul-Henri Carton, formerly CIO of holiday company Club Méditerranée and electrical goods retailer Darty, has taken the top IT job at Vente-Privee.com, a specialist ecommerce platform.

GERMANY

Jörg Felgner has taken over as the first CIO of the state of Saxony-Anhalt.

The Reinhausen Group, a leader in power engineering, has a new IT chief. Christoph Heiss succeeds Franz Moser who retired in May. His previous position as director of group IT at roofing materials manufacturer Monier has been taken by Axel Scarponi.

Leading Bavarian commercial bank BayernLB has put administration board member Nils Niermann in charge of IT.

Dorothée Appel is the new CIO at Microsoft Germany.

Uwe Herold, former CIO of SAP, is taking on a similar role at printing press maker Heidelberger Druckmaschinen.

ITALY

Luxottica, the €5.8 billion eyewear conglomerate that owns Sunglass Hut, has made Tom Schuetz VP and CTO for its Luxottica Retail unit in North America.

Andrea Provini is the new global CIO at pharmaceutical group Bracco Group. Provini was previously CIO of ceramics company Marazzi.

NEW ZEALAND

New Zealand’s largest grocery retailer and distributor, Foodstuffs Auckland, is seeking a new CIO after information management systems general manager Malcolm Paul decided to move on.

UK

Ernst & Young has announced the appointment of Maureen (Mo) Osborne as its new global CIO. She will split her time between the London and New Jersey offices.

Westminster City Council CIO David Wilde has left to take up the same role with Essex County Council.

Catherine Doran has left Network Rail, the owner and operator of the UK’s rail network, to be the new CIO at Royal Mail.

Christine Connelly, the Department of Health’s director general of informatics, has announced her resignation. She will be replaced on an interim basis by Katie Davis of the Cabinet Office.

Transport for London, which runs the city’s underground and bus network, has merged its IT and information management organization and made Steve Townsend, previously director of information management, its new CIO. He will inherit the title from Ian Campbell, who chose not to be considered for the new role.

USA

Ronald Sorozan has been appointed CIO for the US railroad group Amtrak.

US Federal CIO Vivek Kundra, who has spearheaded the Obama administration’s efforts to shift to a cloud delivery model, is leaving his post to accept a fellowship at Harvard University.

Sanjeev “Sonny” Bhagowalia has been named as the State of Hawaii’s first full-time CIO.

Hawaii’s Central Pacific Bank has appointed Glen Blackmon as EVP and CIO.

Time Warner has announced that Bill Krivoshik will join the company as SVP and CIO.

The Federal Communications Commission has announced Robert Naylor as the new CIO.

Financial settlement services giant Depository Trust & Clearing has named Robert Garrison as its new CIO.

Vance Hitch, CIO at the US Justice Department, has retired after nine years in the job.

California governor Jerry Brown has appointed Carlos Ramos as the State of California’s new CIO. He takes over from interim State CIO Christy Quinlan, who is retiring. Earlier, Ramos directed the Office of System Integration that manages the state’s Health and Human Services Agency's IT portfolio.

Aluminium manufacturer Aleris International has named Steven Faas as its SVP and CIO.

John Itokazu has joined Union Bank, a commercial bank with operations across four states, as chief information and operations officer.

Michael Furlow is the new CIO at family restaurant chain Chuck E. Cheese.

Scott Blanchette has taken up the post of CIO at Vanguard Health Systems, which operates medical facilities across five states.

Bruce Maas, CIO at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, has been selected as the next IT leader at UW-Madison.

Outdoor retailer Cabela has named Dave Kardesh as its new CIO; he previously served as CTO at First Data Corp.

Brad Willis has been promoted to CIO at boating products retailer West Marine.

Raymond James Financial has installed former UBS Wealth Management Americas CIO Bella Loykhter Allaire as its EVP for technology and operations.

Holiday resort The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas has named it new CIO as Kris Singleton.

Brian Voss, the IT vice chancellor and CIO at Louisiana State University, is to take over as VP of IT and CIO of the University of Maryland.

Patterson Companies, a specialty distributor of dental and veterinary products, have appointed Ranell Hamm to the position of CIO.

Virginia’s Monarch Bank has made Denys Diaz EVP and CIO and a new member of its executive management team.

Talmer Bank and Trust, a Michigan and Wisconsin community bank, has announced that Greg Bixby has been named CIO.

Food chain Garden Fresh Restaurant Corp has announced the appointment of Eric Rosenzweig as CIO.

Richard Boes, an IT executive at California State University, is to serve as Vermont’s CIO and commissioner of the Department of Information and Innovation.

Hans-Erik Aronson has been promoted to the newly created position of VP of IT and CIO at non-profit medical research group Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory.

Lafayette Consolidated Government’s new CIO has been named as Kevin Samples.

Health Dialog, a subsidiary of private healthcare provider BUPA, has appointed former Gartner executive Bill Pelzar as the company’s CIO.

Bensussen Deutsch & Associates, the merchandise agency for such brands as Caterpillar, Jaguar, Land Rover, Coca-Cola and Sony, has announced the appointment of David Schwartz as CIO. Schwartz was previously VP of engineering at travel company Expedia.

Indiana State Univesity has named Lisa Spence as a new associate VP for academic affairs and CIO.
