Our regular round-up of the latest major CIO appointments from around the world:

AUSTRALIA

The former CIO of airline Qantas, Jamila Gordon, has become the new CIO at project management and contracting giant Leighton Holdings.

David Kennedy has left the NSW Office of State Revenue to take up a newly-formed CIO position at Communities NSW, the state government agency in New South Wales.

The Health Department has named Paul Madden as its first CIO.

CANADA

Retailer lululemon athletica has announced that Kathryn Henry has been appointed to its senior leadership team as CIO.

FRANCE

Insurance company Aviva has appointed François Xavier Quilici, formerly CEO of shared services operations for Zurich Financial, as chief information technology officer for Aviva France and core IT applications director for Aviva Europe.

INDIA

Software giant EMC has announced the appointment of Niranjan Thirumale as CTO of its Center of Excellence in India.

QATAR

Christopher Grant McDaniel has been named head of IT planning and strategy for real estate and infrastructure service operator QPM.

SINGAPORE

Global marketing company Interpublic Group has announced the appointment of Dene Schonknecht as CIO, Asia Pacific, of its Mediabrands division.

SWEDEN

Fredrik Östman has been appointed the new CFO and CIO for security group Gunnebo, succeeding Hans af Sillén.

UK

Life insurance company AXA has appointed Michael Healy as its new global CIO. Kevin Murray has been named COO and CIO at AXA UK.

UK Government CIO John Suffolk has announced his resignation. His replacement has yet to be named.

Royal Bank of Scotland has hired former Wachovia Bank IT boss Ian Alderton as its new CIO.

GE Capital has named Paul Scott as the new CIO for its leveraged finance operations in Europe and the Middle East.

USA

JP Rangaswami, the former CIO and chief scientist at telco BT, has moved to cloud software company Salesforce.com, where he has the same job title.

American Express
has named Toby Redshaw as its new EVP and CIO. He was previously global CIO for UK-based insurance group Aviva. The current Amex CIO, Stephen Squeri, continues as president at American Express Global Services.

The US Department of the Navy has named Terry Halvorsen as its new CIO. He was previously deputy commander, Navy Cyber Forces.

Universal Orlando Resort has named former IBM VP of global IT infrastructure Bill McCorey as its new SVP and CIO, and successor to Michelle McKenna.

Sales, rental and lease finance company Aaron’s has promoted John T Trainor to the position of VP and CIO.

The CIO of Yahoo, Michael Kirwan, has left the company. He is succeeded by David Dibble, EVP of service engineering and operations.

Lt General Jeffrey Sorenson, the long-time US Army CIO, has retired from his post. No replacement has been named yet.

Plastics manufacturer A Schulman has named John B Broerman as VP and CIO.

Alan Ciochon has become CIO at law firm Michael Best & Friedrich.

Cornell University has named Ted Dodds, formerly vice provost for IT at the University of British Columbia, as its new CIO and VP.

Real estate chain BridgeStreet Worldwide has appointed Pete Gibson as its CIO.

Business information provider Infogroup has made Gordon Jones its CTO.

The Federal Trade Commission has nominated Princeton Computer Science and Public Affairs professor Dr Ed Felten as its first CTO.

Nathan Maenle has been appointed vice CIO for the Defense Information Systems Agency based in Virginia.

Jim Panos has become CIO at global pulp and newsprint supplier Central National-Gottesman.

Woodrow Chin has taken over from Bill Holder as CIO for Dillard’s, the department store chain.

Oak Ridge Associated Universities has appointed Chester Maze as VP of IT and CIO.

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency has announced Edward J Dorris as its new CIO.

Priscilla Guthrie has resigned as CIO of the Office of the Director for National Intelligence after about 18 months in the position. A replacement is still to be named.

Charlie Weston has become CIO at OSI Restaurant Partners.

Tire and rubber manufacturer Bridgestone Americas has promoted Stephen Brooks to the newly-created position of CIO.

Financial services firm SWBC has named Mark Berger the company’s new SVP and CIO. He joins from MacAndrews & Forbes Holdings.
