Which CIOs are heading where?

Multi-remit trend line for CIOs

European executive search company Boyden suggests increasing numbers of corporate CIOs are taking on extra functional responsibility, adding operational roles in areas such as HR, logistics, shared business services and facilities.

Trading places: The retail sector

Best Buy, the American electronics retail giant that owns The Carphone Warehouse chain in Europe, has appointed former Accenture consultant Neville Roberts as company-wide CIO.

Rob Fraser, previously VP of Consumer Technology at CSC, has joined UK supermarket chain Sainsbury's as CIO.  

UK department store House of Fraser has reintroduced the role of IT director - Duncan Gray's recent appointment is part of a drive to improve customer service.

Global electronics retailer RadioShack has announced Sharon Stufflebeme as its new senior vice president and CIO.

Other global movers and shakers

Australia

Chris Crozier, former chief procurement officer at mining company BHP Billiton, has replaced former CIO Ken Matthews at the company.

Belgium

Albert Timmermans has been appointed as CIO of SPE, the second largest energy producer and supplier in Belgium.

France

Ian Buchanan, formerly CIO at Alliance & Leicester, has become the new global CIO for Société Générale's Corporate and Investment Banking division.
The French bank has also appointed Bertrand Lemarignier director of global technologies and services at its new shared services centre for IT infrastructures.

Germany

Oliver Bussmann started as CIO at SAP AG in September. He was formerly regional CIO of Allianz for North America and Mexico.

The Netherlands

Pieter Schoehuijs has become AkzoNobel's new CIO. A Dutch national, Schoehuijs joined the company from Church & Dwight in New Jersey, US.

UK

Ian Cohen has joined risk and insurance specialists Jardine Lloyd Thomson as CIO. He previously occupied the same position at Associated Newspapers.
Rorie Devine has been appointed UK CTO at Yell, a newly created role within the organisation. Prior to joining he was CTO of Betfair.

US

Richard Spires, former CIO at the Internal Revenue Service, has become CIO at the US Department of Homeland Security.
Robert Webb has moved from financial data provider Equifax to take on the CIO role at Hilton Hotels.
