Global CIO appointments: EMEA

Finland

Hossein Moiin has joined Nokia Siemens Networks as its new CTO taking over all R&D initiatives after former head, COO Mika Vehvilainen, moved to airline Finnair.

Nokia has landed former Sun software chief Rich Green as CTO, a wide-ranging role which will call into play his Java pedigree and expertise in cross-operating systems software frameworks.

Germany

Cosmetics company Beiersdorf has promoted Barbara Saunier to the CIO position from her role as head of the IT and logistics units at Beiersdorf subsidiary tesa. She will also take over the management of Beiersdorf Shared Services.

Netherlands

Neil Cameron, global CIO at Unilever, has been replaced by Willem Eelman, previously SVP of finance and IT for Western Europe.

Saudi Arabia

Shoaibi Group, the provider of oil and gas technology products and services, has named David Malone as its CTO.

South Africa

Lars Gustavsson has been appointed group CIO for the Standard Bank Group. Gustavsson was earlier group CIO and head of services at ABN AMRO.

Switzerland

Compagnie Financière Tradition, the inter-dealer broker, has appointed Yann L'Huillier as its group CIO. L'Huillier was previously head of technology at Turquoise, the pan-European share-trading platform purchased by the London Stock Exchange late last year.

UAE

George Yacoub has been named CIO at the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company's Corniche Hospital, after working in the US at the Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit.

Zain Group, the leading mobile operator in the Middle East, has appointed Haitham Al Khaled as its CTO.

UK

Philip Clarke, group IT director at Tesco, is set to become the new CEO of the supermarket giant after Sir Terry Leahy announced he will step down from the top post.

Former UK government CIO, Ian Watmore, who moved on to become chief executive of the English Football Association, has returned to UK civil service as chief operating officer of the Efficiency and Reform Group. His role will be to cut waste and improve accountability by co-ordinating departmental projects and schemes, exploiting economies of scale and reducing duplication, as well as looking for efficiencies in procurement, project management, property, HR and ICT.

Tony Mather has left his position as CIO of the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office for a new job as CIO of outdoor media display company Clear Channel.

Paul Cheesbrough has vacated the CIO's chair at the Telegraph Media Group to take on the same role at rival News International, owners of the Times and Sun newspapers. He takes over from Andrew Hickey who leaves later this year to develop a portfolio of consultancy work.

Ian Campbell is settling in as CIO at underground, bus and train operator Transport for London. Campbell was previously group CIO at British Energy.

The former Transport for London IT chief, Yvonne Ferguson, has become the new CIO at Royal Mail, replacing Robin Dargue who is now with Alcatel as EVP of business and IT transformation.


Tony Read, a former Nortel CIO, has become the new CEO at the National Skills Academy for IT.

Darryl Salmons has left his role as CIO to the Financial Services Authority to run the new CIO advisory practice at Ineum Consulting, part of Management Consulting Group plc.
 
Al-Noor Ramji, formerly CIO of BT Group and CEO of BT Innovate and Design, has joined financial services software company Misys to head its banking division.

Food manufacturer Findus Group has appointed its first CIO, Jola Gillespie, who was previously CIO for Europe at brewing company SABMiller.

Electrocomponents, the high service electronic, electrical and industrial distributor, has appointed Phil Cook as general manager, group IS from British American Tobacco, where he was group CIO.

Bruno Laquet has left his position as CIO with Corus, the steel manufacturer, and moved into the education sector joining Cambridge Assessment, the examining body that is part of Cambridge University.

Robin Young has left his role as COO of bank Bradford & Bingley to head up an IT-enabled change programme at pub and restaurant group Mitchells & Butlers, where he will be commercial director. Previously, Young was CIO and director of change at Egg and Citi banks in the UK.

Simon Ricketts has joined engineering company Rolls-Royce as CIO succeeding Jonathan Mitchell. Ricketts was previously CIO of brewers Scottish & Newcastle and mostly recently with Logica, where he was global transformation director.
